About the Author: Joe Callihan
A patriotic American, who entered the service with the intention of serving to the very best of his ability. A man brought up to possess integrity, with the belief that respect is a two way street. It must be earned by those having character and respect toward others.
The Military teaches the simple wearing of an officer's uniform commands respect, regardless of how empty headed that officer may be. As a Government Issued soldier, any individual thought process must give way to following orders, regardless of how stupid such orders may be. Never question the one issuing the orders ability to lead or make intelligent decisions. Become a member of the "team" - a mindless machine forfeiting freedom of thought and expression.
Serving the way of my intention was sometimes challenged to the extreme. But I can happily report I may hold my head up high, as I did serve with distinction and honor.
It is my belief that every physically and mentally capable American enjoying the freedoms of our liberty, should not object to serving at least two years in our country's defense. I am proud to have done so, particularly at a time in which so many ran off to Canada to keep from serving.
Everyone has stories to tell, and life adventures to share. These are some of mine. They will delight both those who have served, are serving, or never served in our Military. Navyland also provides a better understanding of life in the Military during the Vietnam Era.
Adventures of QM3 Joe Callihan, while serving in the Navy during the Vietnam Era. Working in an Op Center in Panama brought many adventures, as did my time in the Reserves.

Brought up to believe respect is something which must be earned by those walking on a two way street. I was perhaps the "Pappy Boyington" of the Navy. An honorable man of integrity, I was considered to be brash among those believing a uniform gave them respect; while they chose to act with blatant disrespect toward others.

This book asks two questions of the reader. Can a man like Joe Callihan survive the Navy? Can the Navy survive a man like Joe Callihan.
