Cubicle Envy

In April 2009, amidst economic downturn, employees at Product Wave, Ltd., a software company in Massachusetts, faced salary and bonus freezes despite their hard work. Meanwhile, management secretly awarded themselves bonuses. Unnoticed, the company’s accountants discover this discrepancy and set out on a mission to redirect the bonuses back to the deserving employees. "Cubicle Envy" offers a humorous glance at corporate life, featuring a cast of witty office workers, audacious accountants, and overwhelmed middle managers, all navigating the absurdities of workplace politics and the quest for justice within the cubicle-laden landscape of American industry.

About the Author: Geoff Jarok
Geoff Jarok is an MBA grad of Suffolk University in Boston. He's warmed every seat in the office from auditor to fearless accountant to unpaid cubicle maintenance worker. He's proudly at the forefront of accountants who have left a secure job for the writing life. That being said, Geoff may soon be scouting for a new cubicle in an office near you now that his writing coffee break is over.

Geoff has worked with global companies and "mom and pop" outlets for over twelve years. His practice and education make him a good candidate to sit in a big office one day. Before he gets there he wants to tell you a cautionary story about life in the cubicle and the understated value of the people you work with. Of course, as a life-long resident of Massachusetts, he sees no sense in pretending the business world, in whatever size it comes, is a cozy mash of tall-tales, office gossip, and an occasional productive meeting.

Cubicle Envy is Geoff's first novel, after years of writing poems, short stories, and a lot of accounting memos.
In the cubicle building blocks of American industry, April of 2009 brought workers little more than meeting requests to pull them away from barely hidden job searches and online gambling losses on their 401Ks.

Product Wave, Ltd., a global software company headquartered in Massachusetts, was just as rife with frustration, dotted among endless rows of cubes, as any company withering in the recession. The difference was that the workers were still engaged hoping for a turn-around. In fact, their efforts were so outstanding it earned them an indefinite salary and bonus freeze. Most employees were so busy worrying about the economy that they didn't notice management had authorized bonuses to be paid...to management.

The bigwigs would've gotten away with it, if not for those meddling accountants. Long a disregarded entity within the halls of Product Wave, the rambunctious accounting team was given a chance to make noise by management's misstep. Follow them as they find friends and enemies across the corporate landscape, while making certain the bonus check goes nowhere, but back into the pockets of the cube dwellers who earned it. When the whistles stop blowing maybe the bottom line comes out a little differently than expected.

Cubicle Envy is an offbeat look at a corporate world flush with cheeky office workers, rogue accountants, and middle managers just trying to get some work done so they can get out before 9:00PM.
