Do You Understand What You Are Reading?

This book explores the essence of Christianity, its connection to Judaism, and guides on interpreting the New Testament (NT) accurately. It questions if the NT is outdated, arguing against the notion by highlighting the modernity of the Greek worldview it embodies, foundational to modern sciences. The author dismisses the supposed conflict between science and faith as a myth, offering insights into NT's language and culture. Readers are equipped with principles, rules, and examples for a deeper understanding of the NT.

About the Author: Chrys Caragounis
The Author, Chrys C. Caragounis, B.D. (Honours), London University; Doctor of Sacred Theology, Uppsala University, is Professor emeritus of New Testament Exegesis at Lund University, Sweden. For over forty years he has researched the NT in the light of the entire history of the Greek language (from Homeros to the present). His research, covering philological, linguistic, historical, cultural, as well as NT (and OT) exegetical questions, has been published in technical journals and books, a few of which are: The Son of Man, Tübingen 1986; Peter and the Rock, Berlin 2000, The Development of Greek and the New Testament, etc. Tübingen 2004 and Grand Rapids 2007; New Testament Language and Exegesis, Tübingen 2014, etc. etc. For 13 years the Author has been Chairman of the Seminar on The Language of the New Testament in the international society for NT Studies: Studiorum Novi Testamenti Societas.
What is the essence of Christianity? How does the Christian Faith relate to the Jewish Faith? How do we understand and interpret the New Testament (= NT)? Are there any principles and rules as well as tools which can guide us, so that we can understand the NT as it was intended?

Is the NT passé and out of date, as some think, who compare it with the world view of Egypt and Mesopotamia 2000 years B.C.? The Author produces concrete evidence that the Greek world view that the NT shares, was quite modern, laying the foundation for all modern sciences. The supposed conflict between science and Faith is a myth!

The author's insights into the language and culture of the NT offer the reader a unique possibility for a fuller understanding of the NT.

The reader is offered all the help he/she needs with many examples of how to go about in order to understand the NT in depth.
