Eastward of Eden

Embark on a safari into Genesis, where following Adam's creation, we join in naming animals in a Pangea bursting with intelligent design. Equipped with binoculars and cameras, we observe the beauty of early creation and a figure flaring with sunlight, presumed to be the Designer. Adam names a giraffe 'Goref', reflecting a common linguistic root across diverse languages. We also explore the naming of a butterfly, linking words across cultures that embody the concept of fluttering. This adventure reveals the interconnectedness of language and creation, urging us to delve deeper into the genesis of words and the world. Happy creation hunting!

About the Author: Alice Vargo
BIO
Alice Vargo was born to a family hit by the 1930's Depression. Banks, as well as marriages, were going belly-up from the aftershocks. With 'Marriage in Mirage', a hair- trigger, batterer Dad, turned his frustrations on his new wife and youngest daughter, Ali.
An indifferent sister, product of Dad's first marriage, Rita was both defiant and invulnerable. Dad's failed first marriage produced two daughters. Ruth was entrusted to her Dad's care. She was 12 years Ali's senior. Despairing in a dysfunctional home, Ali read widely and wrote rhymes and essays to still the hurts and anger. (Only much later would she learn Rita had poetry gifting, too. Ali in retirement would include a few of Rita's poems in her epic poem, Eastward of Eden.) Ali would be at Rita's gravesite delivering the eulogy one day.
At 18, Ali's writings attracted her senior teacher who then offered training in typing and shorthand. (Mr.Burch, was in charge of a unique program, Diversified Cooperative Training). When he thought Ali was ready he recommended her to a Palm Beach weekly paper as cub reporter.
Under the small, courteous staff Ali learned how to meet deadlines, post good headlines and prepare good human interest by-lines. Headlines, by-lines and deadlines became her daily challenge as she learned to interview all sorts of interesting people after school.
Despite Mr. Burch's urging to major in journalism, Ali deferred. She couldn't afford college. Her mom, Rose, suggested she take on a nurses on-the-job 3 year training course, for a low up-front fee, just covering the cost of uniforms.
After the initial psych exam testing suitability, she spent the next three years studying in the daytime and working 7 to 3P.M . Surgical and medical experiences were provided 'hands on' in busy wards. Affiliations were made via a mental hospital for psych studies and a T.B. hospital program for work and study lasting three months. There were also collaborating college courses. The experiences would color her writings in future. Ali became an R.N. after a state exam in 1951.
An extraordinary experience occurred at the time of dental surgery. Impacted wisdom teeth would be removed with cyclopropane as the anesthetic. It would effect her life. The young nurse, a trained Darwinist, had an OBE then and there. She became a dedicated believer! With fledgling faith she mustered her courage to spend 5 years as a Public Health Nurse in Dade County. There she contributed to the Pulse News, sharing colorful experiences as a district nurse.
Later she sensed a strong inward urge to attend Bible College to learn more about her amazing OBE experience. She obtained her BA in Bible and headed for Oklahoma U. to study linguistics. With courses in Demographics she learned of tribes without a written language, who thought killing and vengeance to be a sport. She would later type an essay about damaged Chernobyl children's health and life reeling from the 1986 Russian nuclear plant accident.
Dr. Theodore Suess would be another outgrowth too, with strong anti-genocidal bent. These writings, with added pics, and many others, would appear freely on a friend and mentor's world wide blog.
INTRODUCTION: A SAFARI INTO GENESIS
Genesis 2:19 After Adam, an adult, was created, God offered him the option to name animals.
Let's join him. We'll wear our jungle fatigues and tracking boots. We'll include a large quick-lens camera. Zoom lens binoculars and a knapsack containing some rations, dangles from our neck. We have heard from doubting Thomases who would discourage us from examining the New World emanating from Genesis. Our binoculars now zoom in on early creation wherein fresh, intelligent design emerges from a jungle clearing.
We suspect an Intelligent Designer to be admiring His creation in this enchanting Pangea. Just now a large, muscular figure, flaring with the sun's brightness, appears in the clearing behind a swathe of richly endowed fruit- bearing trees and flowers of glorious color. We are still blinking from the powerful sunlight on that figure. The DESIGNER on a hillside bluff, bright as the noonday sun, listens with fatherly enjoyment. (we're enjoying clairvoyance in this enchanting place.)
We record Adam's voice as he exclaims over a male giraffe, 'GOREF.' We hear him "I'll, call you "Scruff." Aramaic- Hebrew found in the writings from which the 1611 King James Bible was taken. We'll hear the consonants in English as 'giraffe'. At least a dozen concurrent nations use a similar word today. To be listed later.
Now Several Middle Eastern and other nations will mime the sound. Turkic: purpuruk; Assyrian: pirrpirraa; Persian:parvane; Hindi, parvana and Arabic p to f (a lingual 'bilabial switch' to be explained later) as farasha.
Now he singles out a butterfly that flutters near his face. I'll call you 'parpar' meaning to flutter. We remember words like the French 'parlay' of the fluttering tongue and the English word 'Parliament' for fluttering tongues. English words like parrot and parakeet for fluttering tongue birds quickly come to mind. We trip the shutter to capture the flight of the delicate creature which is now wandering over our heads. Later we'll find other Aramaic biblical Hebrew animal names, which the King James Bible or Strong's Bible Concordance may contain. I'm removing this too warm jacket and rolling up the heavy camouflage pants. Happy creation hunting!
