About the Author: Marino Restrepo
Marino Restrepo was born in the Andes Mountains of Colombia in a small coffee-growers town. His family was one of strong Catholic faith, endorsing all of the Catholic traditions and teachings. Marino was the sixth child in a family of ten. At age fourteen he moved to the capital of Colombia, Bogotá, where he achieved his high school education. He got married shortly before he turned twenty, and moved to Hamburg, Germany, where he attended the University of Hamburg and studied arts. His two sons were born there, and after spending six years in Germany, he moved to Los Angeles, California, where he has lived ever since. He engaged himself in the entertainment industry as an actor and musical composer.
In 1985 he was signed to Sony music of New York as an exclusive artist with his band Santa Fe. They released a number of albums worldwide and toured throughout the world following the release of their records. Marino lived in this world of entertainment for twenty years, and he spent all those years away from the Lord. He had started to drift away from Catholicism ever since he moved to Bogotá in the sixties. He then became a pagan, and his life took a sharp turn towards the life of a worldly human being, focused on shallow materialistic matters such as money, fame, and pleasure. He involved himself in Eastern pagan religions and all kinds of esoteric sciences, such as astrology, crystals, candles, aromatherapy, flora therapy, card reading, I-ching, runes, psychics and all kinds of superstitions.
Marino's life took a drastic turn during his visit to his hometown in Colombia at midnight on Christmas Eve in 1997. While he was driving into the ranch of one of his uncles where he was to spend the night, he was kidnapped by the Colombian rebels of the FARC (Revolutionary Arm Forces of Colombia) and taken to the jungle as a hostage for six months. During the first fifteen days of his kidnapping, he was kept in a cave with bats and different kinds of bugs while the captors were waiting for the rebels to pick him up. In that very cave, and after finding out that he was sentenced to death by his captors, he went through a mystical experience with God that changed his life forever. Five and a half months later, Marino was miraculously released from captivity after a miracle of God, and after his release he went back to his catholic faith.
Eighteen months later he became a full time missionary for the Catholic Church leaving all of his past, and his worldly possessions behind. He founded a Catholic Mission called Pilgrims of Love with the Archdiocese of Bogotá, Colombia and he has visit around 90 countries and an uncountable number of cities.
Marino's testimony has been put into a book that he wrote and he is currently developing other teachings in writing, video and audio formats.
Marino Restrepo nació en una pequeña ciudad de cultivadores de café ubicada en las montañas de los Andes de Colombia, en el seno de una familia de tradiciones católicas y fue educado con estos valores.
Es el sexto de una familia de diez hijos. A la edad de 14 años, se traslada a Bogotá, capital de Colombia, en donde termina su educación secundaria.
Antes de cumplir los veinte años de edad, contrae matrimonio en Bogotá y posteriormente se radica en la ciudad de Hamburgo, Alemania, donde estudia artes y composición musical en la universidad de Hamburgo.
Después de vivir durante seis años en esa ciudad, en la cual nacen sus dos hijos, viaja a los Estados Unidos para radicarse inicialmente en Nueva York y posteriormente en Los Ángeles, en donde se vincula con la industria del entretenimiento. En 1985 firma con Sony Music de Nueva York como artista exclusivo. Produce muchos proyectos musicales e inicia numerosas giras de promoción
Durante más de veinte años, Marino estuvo vinculado al medio artístico como actor, productor, escritor de libretos, compositor, etc. Durante 33 años permaneció totalmente alejado del Señor, ya que desde los años 60, mientras vivió en Bogotá, durante su vida de adolescente, empezó a alejarse de su fe Católica involucrándose con religiones y cultos paganos, y toda clase de ciencias ocultas y esotéricas, practicando la astrología, utilizando cristales, velas, aromaterapia, floraterapia, lectura de las cartas, técnicas del I ching, ciencias de control mental y en general en toda clase de supersticiones y psicología moderna.
La vida de Marino estaba centrada en el dinero, la fama y totalmente entregada al placer.
De pronto su vida tuvo un cambio drástico debido a trascendentales acontecimientos que lo marcaron para siempre.
En la Navidad del año 1997, al entrar a la finca de uno de sus familiares a pasar la noche, fue sorprendido por un grupo de hombres guerrilleros de las FARC quienes lo secuestraron junto con un sobrino suyo.
De esta manera se da inicio a una experiencia muy difícil que se prolonga por seis meses, hasta cuando Marino es liberado por gracia de Dios.
El secuestro tiene diversos episodios, pero lo más importante de esta etapa en la vida de Marino es el encuentro que tiene con el Señor en el momento en que estaba totalmente destruido, vencido, condenado a muerte por sus captores y sin ninguna esperanza. Es allí en donde descubre que sus conocimientos sobre tantas prácticas alternativas a la fe de nada le servían para superar tan duro momento.
Amarrado y escondido en condiciones infrahumanas y sometido a las inclemencias de la selva colombiana en donde era presa de toda clase de insectos y alimañas, repentinamente tiene una manifestación del Señor. Vive una experiencia mística de iluminación de su conciencia, reviviendo todos sus pecados y dándole un conocimiento profundo de su responsabilidad ante Dios y ante su vida terrenal. Más adelante en medio de una visión en la que escucha primero la voz del Señor, es llevado a vivir el estado del infierno, el purgatorio y contempla la gloria de Dios desde un lago que equivalía al estado purgatorial.
Desde entonces, Marino cambió totalmente su vida, se la entregó al Señor y ahora se dedica, como misionero, al servicio del Señor y de la Iglesia Católica, a propagar la palabra de Dios y su experiencia por todo el mundo.
El testimonio de conversión de Marino ha sido publicado en un libro escrito por él mismo y sus enseñanzas sobre la fe y doctrina Católica tal y como fueron revelados personalmente por el Señor Jesús, se encuentran disponibles a través de Internet.
