About the Author: JOAQUIN DE TORRES
Joaquin De Torres was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. The third son of immigrant parents from the island of Guam, he graduated from high school at 17, and joined the U.S. Navy where he trained in the field of Naval Intelligence.
He earned his B.S. and M.A. in International Management going to college at night, while serving on active duty during the day. He completed his final tour at the National Security Agency (NSA), and retired from the Navy with 21 years.
His experience with powerful military game changers within the dark labyrinth of the Defense Department, helped create his eclectic collection of heroes and villains, and the dynamic yet dreadful situations they are thrust into.
In the spirit of Michael Crichton, Jules Verne, Stephen King, and George Orwell, De Torres sees a world of Human weakness and mortal torment filled with deceit, control, indifference, and greed. His world is one where technology is the elixir and, ultimately, the curse of Mankind when in the wrong hands.
His visions of that curse are graphically horrifying, blatantly factual, and emotionally jarring. He forces his readers to come to assume his characters' flaws, fears, and questionable moral responsibility in order for them to overcome, die, or triumph.
De Torres is an English professor and freelance writer living with his family in Croatia.
