About the Author: Howard Zinn
Howard Zinn was an historian, a playwright, an activist and a professor of history. He wrote the classic PEOPLES HISTORY OF THE UNITED STATES, "a brilliant and moving history of the American people from the point of view of those whose plight has largely been omitted from most histories" (Library Journal). The book, which has sold more than 2 million copies, continues to have an significant influence on this generation of historians and students.

Zinn was the author of more than two dozen books, including an autobiography "You can't Be Neutral on a Moving Train," the play, "Marx in Soho," and "Passionate Declarations." He attended college under the GI bill, then took a Ph.D. from Columbia, and then taught at Spelman College where he became active in the civil rights movement. After being fired from Spelman College for supporting student protesters, Zinn became a professor of political science at Boston University where he taught until his retirement in 1988.
