Remembering John

In Salt Lake City, I lived with John, a charismatic and imaginative drunk. Despite his struggles with alcohol, leading to hospital stays, his vivid tales from the past captivated me. As a writer, I saw the potential in his stories. With his permission, I embarked on documenting his life's adventures, finding humor and insight in his recollections. Together, we shared moments of reflection and laughter, uncovering the depth behind his intriguing persona.

About the Author: David Child
David Child has a lot of life experience. He did well in athletics and English classes in his early youth and high school, and then after high school, until 2011, he had about 27 jobs, including turkey meat boner, construction worker, dishwasher, grocery bagger, candy factory worker, layaway department worker, waiter, stock boy, USAF payroll clerk, manager trainee, pricing clerk, night auditor, service station manager, shop assistant, clerical assistant, photography assistant, metals grinder, CRT and phone operator, word processor, payroll specialist and administrative assistant. He also has attended several different schools, including the University of Utah, LDS Business College, Brigham Young University, and the Bryman School. He has been to England and driven across the United States twice. Many things have happened to him. It is a long story, but now David is interested in writing, history, current events, the Internet and taking long walks and seeing Creation's beauties and wonders.
I once knew a very personable, intelligent, respectful and imaginative drunk named John with whom I lived in a home for men in Salt Lake City. His propensity for strong drink often led him to bouts of stupor and confusion and to stays in the VA Hospital, but he told funny and memorable stories about his past after he sobered up.

I interviewed him because I had a talent for writing, and I thought his stories would be very interesting to many people. This white-haired, grizzled, loquacious, old gentleman was visually interesting as he smiled and chuckled on his way.

He and I sat at the dinner table in the apartment house. I asked him if he would allow me to write stories about him, for I had heard him tell interesting things about his life to the other guys in the house. His gray hair and seemingly incisive intellectual analysis about many topics of the day led me to believe that I would hear many interesting things.
