The Gate of Dreams

"The Gate of Dreams," enriched with six oil vignette colorplates and whimsical silhouettes, channels the essence of classic fairy tales while introducing entirely new stories. These tales—“The Woodcarver’s Daughter,” “Franz the Fool,” and “The Girl of the Bells”—blend sympathy, enchantment, and a touch of rural charm, reminiscent of Brothers Grimm and Hans Christian Andersen classics. Inspired by fairy tale scholar Bruno Bettelheim, Lillian Somersaulter Moats' collection captivates both adults and children, rekindling the timeless wonder of beloved tales.

About the Author: Lillian Moats
Lillian Moats is a writer, artist and filmmaker living near Chicago. She earned a bachelor of fine arts degree from the University of Michigan and a Masters degree from the University of Wisconsin. She has won over 40 international film festival awards (including 6 Cine Gold Eagles) for the animated art films she has produced with her filmmaking partner, JP Somersaulter. Books by Lillian Moats include: The Gate of Dreams (a collection of original fairy tales); Legacy of Shadows and Speak, Hands (literary memoirs); and The Letter from Death (a work of political fiction with a foreword by historian/activist Howard Zinn); and Hope, a Myth Reawakened, a philosophical myth about the nature of hope in a fragile world.
The Gate of Dreams, illustrated with six colorplates from oil vignettes and lively silhouettes throughout, is reminiscent of classic fairy tale editions. Yet the three stories, which appeal to adults as well as children, are entirely new. The sympathetic characters in "The Woodcarver's Daughter", "Franz the Fool", and "The Girl of the Bells", along with the rural settings of these stories, recall to the reader that sense of delight, recognition, suspense and wonder found in the classic tales of the Brothers Grimm and Hans Christian Andersen. Indeed, it was the revered fairy tale scholar Bruno Bettelheim who first suggested the publication of the fairy stories of Lillian Somersaulter Moats.
