About the Author: Donald Weiser
Don Weiser was born in New Haven, CT in 1945 so he's basically as old as dirt. He grew up (we're still waiting for that to happen) in the Catskill mountains of upstate NY. He has a degree in Philosophy and attempted to get an advanced degree in Computer Science but his heart wasn't in it. Don has a beautiful daughter, Michele, from his first marriage to Carol. He left his job and friends in Albany, NY and moved to NC where he and Beth were married in 1990. They lived in happiness until Beth died suddenly in 1995 at the age of 44.
In 1996, Don moved to Raleigh to start his life anew. "It's off to a somewhat slow start", he says but we think that's how he prefers it.
Don retired in 1998 and in 1999 moved to the beautiful mountains of western North Carolina where he lives today. He has two indoor cats who think of him as their personal kitty litter attendant. He also plays the Theremin. (Badly.)
Don's modest house is surrounded by woods; Mountain Laurel, Rhododendron, oak, pine, and two small babbling brooks that make beautiful music. Don likes to pretend he's a recluse and a hermit and perhaps he is. People who have been around Don are pleased that he has chosen the solitary path. Don also likes to pretend he's a photographer and a writer and perhaps he is some of those things too. His backyard was recently certified as a "Backyard Wildlife Habitat" by the National Wildlife Federation.
Don has previously published a book he wrote titled, "REWARD, Lost Cat, The Search for Spock". That book is about how to get a lost pet back and what steps to take to prevent the pet from becoming lost in the first place. Since Beth got Spock (an Abyssinian cat) for Don, it's also a story of how two people living in different states meet, fall in love, marry, and are happy.
Don wanted it mentioned he has two other books "in the works". One is a white squirrel children's book and the other is a photo book of the other wonders in Transylvania County where Don lives; waterfalls, flowers, and fauna.
"The White Squirrels of North Carolina" is a photo gift book of my award winning photos of the rare and beautiful white (not albino) squirrels found in the beautiful mountains of western North Carolina. I took all the photos in Transylvania County with a variety of digital cameras including Sony, Kodak, Olympus, and Panasonic.
