They Also Serve...: Tennis - A Global Religion

"Global Religion humorously places religion on the tennis court, blending sports and spirituality. With elements like fun, teamwork, and competition, the book explores how sports like tennis unite people, akin to the original Olympics' peaceful rivalry. It introduces clerical figures as players, humorously breaking their solemn image, and promotes sportsmanship over dominance, suggesting it could inspire greater harmony in world religion. It's a witty take on how humor and sports can bridge divides."

After studying Classics at Oxford and Theology at Fribourg, Switzerland he was ordained in 1970 and invited by the Abbot to join the community's foundation in St. Louis, Missouri. There, at St. Louis Priory School, he has taught Latin, Greek, Creative Writing, Theology and Tennis. He has had eight books of poetry published and about sixty hymns. In June 2010 a dream came true when he was visiting family in England and was invited by a friend Nigel Oxley, to spend a day at Wimbledon during the second week of the tournament.
Global Religion brings humor smack back into the center of sport. The sport 'pie,' that goes back way beyond Homer, has many ingredients.

Fun, recreation, competition, exercise, teamwork, entertainment — all play various roles in various games. Recently work, money and politics have taken some sports by storm. In They Also Serve...Tennis — A Global Religion, the 'good laugh and quiet smile' of Wild...takes a step further. By bringing "clerical" figures — Cardinals, Popes, Imams, Rabbis and Abbesses — onto the tennis court, their "decorum" is shattered and a low key chuckle emerges. Humor and Tennis are both cohesive — they bring people together as in the original Olympics for peaceful, enjoyable, channeled competition. Winning no longer entails annihilating the opponent but relishing the challenge, fostering prowess, dexterity and achievement.

Perhaps sportsmanship can trickle down into world religion.
